Years ago, standing at a checkout counter waiting for service, I noticed a rack of laminated bookmarks comprised of the 52 playing cards deck. Each card was connected with a day of the year, and described the personality of someone born on that day. Spinning the rack around and spotting my day, I pulled out the Jack of Hearts.
Reading the description of the energy associated with this card, I was astounded at the detailed accuracy and feeling of deep resonance. How could someone know and intimately describe me through a playing card? The “last minute purchase” marketing strategy worked. Bringing the bookmark home, I popped it in my drawer with others, and forgot all about it.
In 2008, after attending an astrology intensive, I found my Jack of Hearts again. A colleague introduced me to what he referred to as the Destiny Card System, a divination tool using the 52 playing cards deck. He said the deck was based on an ancient Calendric System predating the tarot and each card carried an archetypal energy according to the number and suit. On the day we are born, our life path is laid out for 90 years. Like astrology, the Mystic Science of the Cards is a divine blueprint of our soul’s intention and unfolding while on the earth. It is a mathematical formula connected to the movement of the planets and our personal experience of cycles related to time and space.
4 seasons in the year…4 suits. 52 cards…52 weeks. 13 cards in each suit…13 weeks in each season and 13 lunar cycles. 12 court cards…12 months and the movement of our planets through 12 signs/constellations. Beginning with the Ace of Hearts and ending with the King of Spades, each card has a “solar value” which adds up to 364. The Joker is assigned to the last day of the year, December 31st.
The power of this system continues to astound me, and is a perfect compliment to astrology. I’ve been able to more fully understand myself, what I am here to do, the specific energy of my relationships with others, and the exact timing of the energy present to work co-creatively in harmony with my life. Matters surrounding work, finances, relationships of all kinds, health and spiritual endeavors are brought to my awareness so I can actively participate in conscious creation of what will best support me.
